barricade of my heart

physically, you are not here.
and yet, you are here,
right here,
comfortingly enclosed
in this barricade of my heart
soothing my being
with your presence
like a mug of warm spiced tea
on a cold evening.
and like the burning heat
of too-hot tea that scalds
the roof of my mouth
as i savour every sweet sip,
this distance leaves me broken,
walled in a sweet ache of despair.
