The sky is the colour of dirty dishwater. The wind is fierce. The rain stings. The smell of thunder is unmistakeable. The day reflects the gloom I feel.
But it is a perfect day for curling up with a book and sipping hot chocolate. Hot chocolate ... never fails me. It gives me the comfort I want and always delivers the smile I need. Yes, it certainly is a good friend.
The reading material of choice for today happens to be a book of African women's poetry. Let me share with you one particular poem that I like. It is by Zindzi Mandela.
Lock the Place in your Heart
Lock the place in your heart
into which I have poured my emotions
I do not want to be hurt again
use your heartbeat as the key
only you can hear if it unlocks itself
If the wind around you
should blow away
breathe into it and let my secrets go

I love your phot of the dried seed pods! I can picture you curled up with your book and hot chocolate because I am doing the same thing here- except we have snow. Thanks for sharing the poem.
I've loved your photos lately (as usual) but haven't had much time to write and let you know. So here I am doing it now :-) Have a lovely day!
I like the image of you staying inside with the comfort of your hot chocolate when the wind is howling outside.
I especially love the left hand photo on your header of the misty trees.
I love the way you paint
with words
..."smell of thunder".
I felt the hot chocolate
and breathed in the poetry.
Much love and thanks,
Jennifer
You pulled me right into your world! Thanks for the hot chocolate and the poetry - it hit the spot!
Isn't it funny that depending on our moods, sometimes we cosy ourselves away from the wildness of the weather..and then other times we want to be part of it and engage with it and feel it's strength! You're feeling cosy today and here I am today wanting to feel the wind and smell the rain and be wild with it...haha.
I rarely drink hot chocolate because of the calories but, an occasional indulgence, is such a treat.
I love poetry. At 65, I finally published my own book of poetry, "Life's Journey", available on Amazon. It was with a great sense of accomplishment that I finally got it done.
My India trip was delayed a bit but, after a two day stopover in Seoul, I finally arrive Nov 19th for a five month stay. I am going to try to get to your island!! Could we have tea, perhaps, when/if I do?
