Every child is different. Every child learns in different ways.
I am all for giving them more choice and flexibility to cater to their individual preferences.
But I cannot fathom why schools allow children to do as they please, claiming that they are being "child-friendly."
When schools encourage practices that can be detrimental to development, simply because they do not want to appear "rigid", can they still be considered "child-friendly?"
I think not.

Children "doing as they please"? What was this boy doing? In my classroom, students could sometimes choose which activity to workon, within a framework of possibilities (designed for their individual needs). I agree with you 100%.
I agree with you. School is for learning, and they need to learn that they can't just do as they please - because they have to learn it sooner or later and it's much kinder to help them learn it sooner :)
If kids don't learn rules from school and the family....where will they learn them? Amen! Love this post (not to mention how cute that first image is)!
"Child-friendly" in those instances sound more like "child destructiveness" to me! There is no question tht children need limits.
Agree with you too. Children need structure, routine and rules and I do find everyone is happier then.
I so agree, whether at school or in regards to parenting! Children need guidelines and rules for sure...how can they feel secure if they are the ones in control after all?
Have a great day today!
