Watching pigeons sitting atop a tree
Quiet, observant, waiting.

Intelligent, thinking birds,
They swoop down to the ground.

Watching children feed pigeons
Grains of lentils and rice.

Watching the small grey birds
Take faltering steps towards the offering

The green gloss on their necks
Glimmering in the bright morning light.

The reddish orange eyes
Cautious. Questioning. Curious.

Watching scores of grey bodies
Jostle for food.

Watching children now chase pigeons
Their faces full of glee.

With whoops of joy and happy giggles
They run through the feeding birds.

The pigeons take flight in unison
Like a fountain springing forth.

Amazing! What a wonderful story in pictures.
beautiful storyboard
Oh my boys loved to chase these ones at San Marco Plazza in Venice Italy. When they were little the called them Dikke Dollies (wich means Fat Dollies). This was many years ago but a pidgeon here is still called a 'Dikke Dollie'. I will show them these when they're back from school. Thanks for reminding me with this story.
What a lovely story! I know a lot of people think of pigeons as vermin but in a city where wildlife is scarce, I love them. They always look so earnest as they go about their business...
great photostory. pigeons...love the shot with the pigeon feet in the background.
I like your pigeon story-here in England a lot of people hate pigeons but, like Kendalee, I like them. I always feel sorry for them, they get so mutilated in London, you get lots with one foot or no claws but they still manage. I got quite a close up shot of one last week in the park, he was most obliging just standing on the fence next to me. Actually I think he wanted to know if I had any food!
How wonderful to see them through children's eyes! And you have soooo many!
just a wonder filled series of shots ~they all are so different looking!
And then they return to settle again.
If only life was like that!
I too love pigeons, even though a lot of people think of them as a nuisance. I think their iridescent colours are like walking around with a rainbow around their necks. I remember many moons ago, when I was 18, being in Amsterdam with my mom and there was a section of the city, a crossroads made of brick surrounded by tall, narrow, old buildings, where there were hundreds of them...it was really neat, you could walk in the middle of them and they didn't care, except if you were in the path to their food!
Pigeons are great! I enjoyed your pigeon post and pictures :)
